Mesobotox in Berlin – a micro-dose treatment for finer-looking skin
Mesobotox – also called Microbotox or intradermal botulinum toxin – differs considerably from a classic treatment of expression lines. Instead of relaxing individual muscles more strongly, very small amounts are placed superficially and spread across many micro-injection points.
The aim is a subtle treatment of the skin surface and of fine expression-related structures, while keeping your natural facial expression as far as possible.
At AS Clinic Berlin on Kurfürstendamm, Mesobotox is planned individually according to your skin, your facial anatomy and the treatment goal.
The treatment can be of particular interest when more volume is not what you want, and a calmer, smoother and refined skin appearance is the priority instead.
What is Mesobotox?
Mesobotox is a superficial injection technique in which small amounts of botulinum toxin are placed into, or immediately beneath, the skin across numerous micro-injection points. Unlike a classic botulinum toxin treatment, the focus is not on treating one strong facial muscle in a targeted way. The terms Mesobotox, Microbotox and Meso Botox are not always used entirely consistently in aesthetic medicine; what these concepts usually share is a more superficial injection, a lower dose per injection point, a larger number of individual micro-injections, and a wider distribution within a treatment area. The aim is a subtle effect on structures close to the surface, without treating the facial muscles in the same way as a classic intramuscular botulinum toxin injection.

How does Mesobotox work?
With Mesobotox, many small injection points are distributed across a selected area of skin. That makes the technique fundamentally different from a classic Botox treatment, where specific muscles are treated at a few anatomically defined points. Botulinum toxin affects signal transmission from nerves; with a superficial micro-dose technique the effect is meant to be more confined to structures close to the surface. Mesobotox should therefore not be carried out to a universal injection pattern. How strongly the treatment works depends among other things on:
- Injection depth
- The number of injection points
- The dose
- The distribution of the micro-injections
- The region treated
- Individual skin and muscle anatomy

What can Mesobotox achieve?
Mesobotox is used above all when a subtle improvement of fine lines and the skin surface is wanted, without influencing natural expression as strongly as a classic muscle treatment does. Realistic expectations matter here: Mesobotox is not a facelift, not a filler, and not a treatment that corrects deep folds or pronounced volume loss. The scientific evidence for intradermal micro-dose techniques is also smaller than for established classic botulinum toxin treatments of expression lines, so the result can differ from person to person. Depending on the starting point, the treatment goal can for example be:
- To make fine superficial lines appear softer
- To make the skin's texture look calmer
- To support a smoother skin appearance
- To visually refine visible pores
- Possibly to reduce excess sebum production
- To achieve a very subtle relaxation of superficial expression-related structures
Can Mesobotox make large pores smaller?
Studies of intradermal botulinum toxin describe a reduction in visible pore size in some of the people treated. How strong that effect is, however, is individual and cannot be expected equally in every skin. Mesobotox does not change all of the causes, so treating visible pores should always be assessed in the context of the skin as a whole. Pores can be more visible because of various factors, including:
- Skin type
- Sebum production
- Genetic predisposition
- Skin ageing
- Sun damage
- The condition of the surrounding tissue
Can Mesobotox affect oily skin?
Intradermal botulinum toxin has also been investigated in connection with a possible reduction in sebum production. Some studies show such effects, but the scientific evidence is still limited. Mesobotox should therefore not be understood as a blanket treatment for every form of oily or blemished skin. Where there is pronounced acne, inflammatory skin changes or other dermatological complaints, the actual underlying cause has to be assessed first.
Mesobotox for fine lines
Particularly superficial, movement-related lines can be of interest for a micro-dose technique when a very strong muscle relaxation is not wanted. What matters is distinguishing between different kinds of lines. The treatment should therefore be chosen according to the actual cause of the line.
- Fine dynamic lines — these appear mainly in movement and can recede noticeably again at rest.
- Deeply etched lines — these remain visible even when the facial muscles are relaxed. Here a superficial Mesobotox treatment may not be enough, because structural changes in the skin already exist alongside muscle activity.
Mesobotox or classic Botox – what is the difference?
The most important difference lies in injection depth, distribution and treatment goal. Classic botulinum toxin is injected into specific muscles; Mesobotox works more superficially and distributes smaller amounts across numerous micro-injection points. Which technique suits better depends on the treatment goal: for a pronounced frown line caused mainly by strong muscle activity, a classic botulinum toxin treatment can make more sense. Where a subtle treatment of superficial structures is wanted, a micro-dose technique may be an option.
| Mesobotox / Microbotox | Classic botulinum toxin treatment |
|---|---|
| Many superficial micro-injections | A few anatomically targeted injections |
| Treatment across an area | Treatment of selected muscles |
| Focus more on fine lines and skin appearance | Focus on the activity of the muscles of expression |
| As little change to expression as possible | Targeted reduction of specific muscle movements |
| No volume build-up | No volume build-up |
| Temporary effect | Temporary effect |

Mesobotox or Baby Botox – are they the same?
No. The terms are sometimes used in similar ways, but they do not necessarily describe the same technique. "Baby Botox" often refers to a conservative dose of a classic muscle treatment, whereas Microbotox or Mesobotox is typically applied more superficially across numerous micro-injection points. "Baby Botox" therefore describes the dosing strategy, while Mesobotox describes the injection technique and depth. Because these terms are not medically standardised, it should always be clarified before treatment which technique is actually planned.
Mesobotox or mesotherapy – what is the difference?
Mesobotox and classic mesotherapy are not the same. Mesobotox uses botulinum toxin in a superficial micro-dose technique. With mesotherapy, by contrast, other substances can be placed superficially into the skin, depending on the specific treatment concept. The prefix "meso" therefore does not automatically describe the active substance used. What matters for the decision is knowing:
- Which active substance is used
- Which skin concern is to be treated
- Which injection depth is planned
- Which result can realistically be expected

Mesobotox or Skin Booster – which treatment suits better?
Mesobotox and Skin Boosters take different approaches. Through botulinum toxin, Mesobotox affects neuromuscular or functional structures close to the surface; Skin Boosters are typically based on injectable products that improve particular properties of the skin tissue. Mesobotox is not a volume filler and does not replace a Skin Booster. Which treatment is more suitable depends on whether the priority is, for example:
- Fine expression lines
- Skin texture
- Hydration
- Elasticity
- Volume loss

Mesobotox or microneedling – what is the difference?
Microneedling works with controlled micro-injuries to the skin and therefore sets a different biological stimulus from a Mesobotox injection. The two treatments are not directly interchangeable. Depending on the situation, microneedling can play a role for skin texture, certain scars or an irregular surface; Mesobotox, by contrast, uses the pharmacological effect of botulinum toxin. Which approach suits your skin better should be decided after an individual assessment.
Will my expression still look natural after Mesobotox?
The aim of a superficial micro-dose treatment is typically to influence facial expression less than a targeted classic muscle treatment does. A change in muscle activity can still occur and cannot be ruled out entirely. "Natural" therefore does not mean that a treatment has no effect at all on the muscles — careful planning matters precisely with superficial injections across a wide area. The result depends particularly on:
- The dose
- Injection depth
- The region treated
- The distance to relevant muscles
- Individual anatomy
Which areas may Mesobotox be suitable for?
Which areas can sensibly be treated depends on the skin, the anatomy and the specific treatment goal. Not every region is suitable for every person: in anatomically sensitive areas in particular, it has to be taken into account which muscles run immediately beneath the skin and what function they have. Regions frequently discussed are, for example:
- The forehead
- The outer eye region
- The cheeks
- The lower face
- The jawline
- The neck
How Mesobotox works at AS Clinic Berlin
-
Personal consultation
We start by establishing what you would like to change about your skin. In particular, we distinguish between fine lines, pronounced expression lines, skin texture, visible pores, sebum production and volume loss. Not every one of these concerns should be addressed with the same treatment.
-
Analysis of skin and expression
The skin is examined at rest and during facial expressions. Among other things, skin texture, the position of fine lines, visible pores, muscle activity, natural asymmetries and sensitive anatomical areas can be assessed. On that basis we decide whether Mesobotox fits the goal you want at all.
-
Individual planning of the micro-injections
The treatment is not planned from a fixed number of points alone. What matters is the area treated, the injection depth, the spacing between points, your individual anatomy and the intensity you want.
-
Treatment
The injections are distributed superficially across the planned area with a very fine needle, creating numerous small injection points. Allow about 20 to 30 minutes for the whole appointment.
-
Follow-up review
The effect should not be assessed immediately after treatment, because botulinum toxin needs time to develop. At a review appointment we can then assess how the skin surface has changed, whether the effect is even, whether natural expression has been preserved, and whether further steps make sense.
When do you see the result of Mesobotox?
Mesobotox does not show its result immediately after the last injection. First changes can develop over the following days; skin texture and subtle changes are often only meaningfully assessed once the effect has developed further. Immediately after treatment, by contrast, the following can be visible — these immediate changes are not the actual result of the treatment:
- Small injection points
- Slight redness
- Small raised spots at the injection sites
- Minor swelling
How long does Mesobotox last?
The effect of a Mesobotox treatment is temporary. How long visible changes last is individual and depends among other things on the technique, the dose, the region treated and your personal response. Studies of intradermal micro-dose techniques report effects over several weeks to months; a fixed longevity cannot reliably be derived from that for an individual person. The treatment should therefore not be repeated automatically to a rigid calendar.
How often should Mesobotox be carried out?
There is no universal treatment interval that suits everyone. A repeat treatment should only be planned after assessing the effect of the previous one and your individual starting point. Treating too often, or unnecessarily, is not a mark of quality; what matters is whether there is a sound indication again.
Does Mesobotox hurt?
Mesobotox consists of several very small injections. Brief stinging, a burning sensation or a temporary feeling of tightness can therefore be felt. How much you feel is individual. Because more individual points are treated than with a classic botulinum toxin injection, the experience of the treatment differs accordingly.
How long is the downtime after Mesobotox?
Downtime is often minimal. Small areas of redness, pinpoint swelling or bruising can occur, however, and remain visible for a while. Many people can carry on with their day afterwards. If you have a photoshoot, an important meeting, a social occasion or a public event on the same day, take possible visible injection-site reactions into account.
What should I bear in mind after Mesobotox?
You will receive individual instructions after treatment. Prescribed medicines should never be stopped on your own initiative for an aesthetic treatment. In general, it can make sense to:
- Avoid rubbing the treated skin unnecessarily
- Avoid firm pressure on the injection sites
- Keep the skin clean
- Avoid intense physical exertion at first
- Avoid strong heat immediately after treatment
- Follow the individual aftercare instructions
What are the risks and side effects of Mesobotox?
Mesobotox is also an injectable treatment with a prescription-only substance and is therefore not free of risk. Besides local reactions, unwanted effects on neighbouring muscles can occur depending on the injection depth and region — for example unwanted muscle weakness, temporary asymmetry or changes to individual facial expressions. The possible risks differ according to the area and your individual anatomy. Possible temporary reactions are:
- Redness
- Small swellings
- Tenderness
- Small bruises
- Headache
- Pinpoint skin reactions
Which symptoms after treatment need immediate attention?
Unusual or severe symptoms, in particular marked difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing, should be assessed medically at once and not left until a regular review appointment. Other unexpected or increasingly severe symptoms should also be discussed promptly with the clinic.
Who may Mesobotox be suitable for?
Mesobotox can be of interest to adults who want a subtle treatment of fine superficial changes and are not looking for a pronounced build-up of volume. A personal assessment is required. Whether a treatment is genuinely suitable depends among other things on:
- The condition of the skin
- Muscle activity
- The area treated
- The desired result
- Pre-existing conditions
- Medication
- Previous treatments
- Individual risks
When should Mesobotox not be carried out?
With certain illnesses, medication, pregnancy, breastfeeding or acute problems in the treatment area, a botulinum toxin treatment can be unsuitable or be postponed. A complete assessment cannot be made through an online form alone. Depending on your individual situation, possible reasons to exclude or postpone treatment include:
- Infections or inflammation in the treatment area
- Certain neuromuscular conditions
- Known hypersensitivities
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Certain medicines
- Individual medical risk factors
Mesobotox in pregnancy and while breastfeeding
Aesthetic treatments with botulinum toxin should not routinely be carried out during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or pregnancy is possible, this should be raised before treatment planning begins.
Is Mesobotox scientifically proven?
The intradermal use of botulinum toxin to improve certain aspects of skin quality has been investigated in clinical studies. There are indications for changes in pore size, sebum production, fine lines and skin texture, among others. The available evidence is, however, considerably smaller than for established classic botulinum toxin applications. That means positive study results are not the same as a guaranteed effect in every person. Responsible advice should therefore take into account both the possible benefits and the limits of the current evidence.
Is Mesobotox an approved standard treatment?
The term Mesobotox does not denote a uniformly standardised use of a medicine. Depending on the product used, the injection technique and the specific treatment goal, an intradermal application may fall outside the respective approved indication. Before treatment it should therefore be clarified transparently:
- Which procedure is planned
- Which goal is being pursued
- Which alternatives exist
- Which risks are relevant
